“We have decided that the government should listen to us arrest the wrestling Chief and solve the problems of wrestlers,” said farmer leader Rakesh Tikait.
Farmer leaders who are supporting India’s top athletes in their battle against wrestling body chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have given a new deadline to the government – either arrest him or ready for a bigger protest.
The farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “We have decided that the government needs to listen to the complaints of wrestlers, and they should arrest wrestling chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. If they don’t, we will accompany the wrestlers to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 9 and hold panchayats across the nation.
Mr. Tikait stated that the charges against the wrestlers should be dropped and Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh must be arrested.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is a member of the BJP and also the head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has been accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior, including sexual harassment and intimidation. The wrestlers claim that he misused his authority to harass athletes.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has promised to provide fairness to the wrestlers. However, the wrestlers insist that nothing less than the arrest of the BJP MP will be acceptable to them.
“During the India Economic Conclave held yesterday, Mr. Thakur stated that the government supports a fair investigation. He mentioned that everyone desires justice, but it will be ensured through the proper legal procedures.”
